Many of us (most of us!) make judgments or decisions about people and situations based entirely on a first glace.  I’m wondering if it’s another cultural failure?  Are we raised and reared to cast those spur-of-the-moment, based-on-nothing, declarations of others?

Because when we meet someone, when we see a stranger on social media or in the news, the truth of it is, we know nearly nothing about them.  We don’t know their story.  We don’t know their health, they’re lives.

And yet, we immediately jump right in, filling the blanks with our own baggage, or own bias, our narrative voice.

Today the Universe is reminding us that it’s really all about the

insides.

Our outer shell, our house, our car, our clothes, our jobs, our exterior frivolities, all of that is superficial.  All of that is temporary and of very little importance when seen on a soul level.  When looking with spiritual eyes, none of it matters.

Who a person is, inside, is where our value lies.  Our doings, our actions, our list of kindnesses is where we can see how far we’ve come, and how far we have still to travel.

As we encounter others, as we cross paths with or come into contact with folks out in the world and on the ‘net, can we do better?  Can we allow the judging to fall away? Can we all please practice looking deeper and seeing the humanity* in every person?

There was a phrase in the public not so long ago which spoke of her as being “someone’s daughter/mother/sister” but has since been corrected.  Now, we realize, she is someone.

As we all are.  Our own individual being is worthy of care, worthy of freedom, the freedom to live our lives, walk our road, in whatever manner we see fit.

It’s not our job to judge.  It is our job to help.

To Be, To Feel

Without sorrow, we cannot truly understand what it might feel like to be happy.  Without pain, our concept of joy may not be as deep, as comprehensive and full.

On this journey, it is very much part of our job, our lesson, our chore, to experience all the ups and all the downs.  It’s why we signed on for this ride.

Is it fun, is it easy? No, absolutely not.  At times it’s so horrible we can’t imagine how we’ll get through the next minute.  Sixty seconds feels like sixty thousand years.

This precarious mental state we all try to keep steady is what the Universe is asking us to focus on right now.

It’s the balance.

Another way to look at this topic is to observe weather.  Without summer, we don’t have enough light to grow food.  Without the rain, we don’t have enough moisture to water our crops.  Without snow, our rivers would run dry.

As much as I thought I wanted to fight against change, it turns out, battling is not the best way to get anywhere.  We must flow with the tides and the winds.  Because, we as animals here amongst the plants, we are part of the movement.

Nothing stays the same.  It can’t, we are a constant storm in motion.  Our task is to feel all the emotions.  We learn by living the experiences.  Not by avoiding them.

It is not comfortable.  It can seem endless.  And yet, as we come out the other side (and we do, we will, we always have), we are cleansed and we are better.  We are improved, and we are in a more receptive space for all of the positives awaiting us.

To advance and evolve, to keep our souls going forward, we must cry for sad, laugh for happy, and immerse ourselves in all which lies in between.

Individually

Every day, at just after midnight, our calendar changes.  In around four weeks, it changes again.  When twelve months have passed, another change is marked.  In ten more years, it’s called something else entirely.

It’s a sort of random-yet-confining set of rules, this flipping and assigning, these days to weeks to months to years to decades.  But our culture embraces the changes like they have true meaning.  It’s false though, this created definition, has not always been this way.

In nature, there are fluid seasons, not harsh and jarring page flips.  One gradual interval overlaps/slides up against the next when none of it is measured with math and numbers.

This gentle ease is what the Universe would like us to focus on right now.  Not the squared off boxes we cram our illusion of measurements into, but the flowing movement which is more natural to our emotions, our bodies, our souls.  To our

Self.

Instead of counting and recounting, we are encouraged to sit, be.  We may feel drawn to going over some past events or emotions, but we can also enjoy just the gratitude and grace to be found in where we currently rest.

To struggle now is to defeat what this particular point in the planet’s journey is trying to teach us.  Where I live, it’s now a cold and dark period.  A time filled with great opportunities.  Refreshing and contemplative occasions just waiting for us to discover them.

We can cocoon indoors, light candles, and sip warm drinks.  Or we can bundle up, march about in the brisk air and breathe deeply, making this spot on the wheel of the year, this exact moment, valuable and worthy.

As I was jotting down notes for our message, I was drawn to an additional validation.  This is yet another way to honour our sacred self, to harness the strength we are surrounded by, while still remembering who we are, and why we’re here.

“Lilith

The First Woman

‘I am the voice of my body and soul.

I choose the life that I desire to live.’

Who She Is:

Lilith embodies our sovereignty to declare our desires and do what must be done in order to live them out.  According to Jewish folklore, Lilith was Adam’s first wife.

She was created from the same earth as he was.   So when he expected her to be subservient to him, she refused.

Lilith explained to Adam that they were equal – made by God.  So when Adam insisted again on her submission, she uttered the divine names and flew away.

She embodies the emotional and spiritual aspects of our unconscious or unrealized desires, sensuality, and unbridled sexuality.  Lilith owns her body and soul completely.  For many women, she is an icon of freedom.

She is the first woman.  She is the woman who refused to be dominated or defined by anyone or anything outside of her.

Intention:

I am the voice of my body and soul.

I choose the life that I desire to live.”

Necessary

What does it mean to be needed, and is it a way we wish to have others view us?  Don’t we all struggle to feel worthy and of value?

Do we really HAVE to have all the things we cling to?  Are all of these gadgets and contraptions required for a truly happy existence?  Do we feel incomplete without the reassurance of others?

This lifetime, for me, is all about Release and Letting Go lessons.  Yet, in the day-to-day, down-n-dirty, we-got-those-bills-to-pay reality, we’re maybe trying to go the other direction.  Might we be causing some of these issues?

I mean, none of us is so unique that we can’t be replaced.  While at the same time, we truly ARE incredibly special, individual, the only one like us, with our own set of skills, talents, and gifts.

It’s a balance, it’s a back-and-forth of trying to find that harmony of necessity.

             It’s:

equilibrium.

We want to feel good about ourselves and what we’re accomplishing.  We just don’t want to worry that when we take a break everything will go to hell in a handbasket.

How we find the tipping point is to fall off of the edge.  Uncomfortable?  Yes.  Fatal?  Usually not.  Informative?  Always.

It’s up to us, one at time, in our own space, in our own way, with our own specialized set of tools, to discover that fine calculation, that perfect leveling.

We need to seek it gently, though.  Without vigor, and without haste.  We need to approach it softly, so as not to flip the scales and cause a crash.

In asking all of these questions, I was directed to see what else we could learn here.  This validation brings the start of an answer, a recalibrating of a reminder.

To learn, we often times are forced to teach.  To instruct, we must first acknowledge that we are always still learning.

To help ourselves, it is best to begin by helping others.
